Summary

Irish farmers continue drinking unpasteurized milk due to perceived safety from routine tests, superior quality, lower cost, and tradition. Public health messages need to address these common beliefs for better impact.

Background:

Concerns about the health risks of unpasteurized milk have grown.
Despite these risks, unpasteurized milk consumption remains prevalent among Irish farming families.

To investigate the underlying reasons for the continued consumption of unpasteurized milk within the Irish farming community.
