1Head and Neck Unit, York District Hospital.
Abstract:
Adverse events are common in many areas of care and can create practical problems or ethical dilemmas for nurses. This case study describes an adverse event involving the discharge and admission of patients. It focuses on three problem areas stemming from the incident: the ethical issues surrounding the cancellation of surgery, the effects on discharge planning and the pressure nurses are under to deliver government targets.
