Area of Science:

  • Orthopedic surgery
  • Minimally invasive surgical techniques
  • Anatomy

Background:

  • Fractures of the anterior pelvic ring often require surgical intervention.
  • Traditional open reduction and internal fixation can lead to significant soft tissue disruption.
  • Endoscopic approaches are increasingly explored for various orthopedic procedures.

Observation:

  • Anterior pelvic endoscopy utilizes specific "windows" for surgical access.
  • These windows allow visualization and instrumentation of the anterior pelvic structures.
  • The technique facilitates direct manipulation of fractured segments.

Findings:

  • Endoscopy enables accurate placement of plates and screws for fixation at the symphysis pubis.
  • It allows for the reduction of internally displaced bone fragments.

Related Experiment Videos

  • Percutaneous procedures can be performed without damaging surrounding anatomic structures.
  • Implications:

    • Anterior pelvic endoscopy presents a viable minimally invasive option for treating anterior pelvic ring fractures.
    • This technique may reduce operative morbidity compared to open procedures.
    • Further research can validate the long-term outcomes and expand indications for endoscopic pelvic fracture management.
