Summary

Urinary sulphatoxymelatonin (aMT6S) excretion, a marker of noradrenergic (NA) neuronal activity, increased during opiate withdrawal. This suggests melatonin secretion may indicate NA hyperactivity in opiate-dependent patients undergoing detoxification.
