Background:

  • Chlorofluorinated hydrocarbons (CFCs) are being phased out as propellants in metered dose inhalers (MDIs).
  • New, environmentally friendly propellants are needed to replace CFCs in pressurized MDIs (pMDIs).
  • Modulite technology offers a potential CFC-free alternative for pMDIs.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the safety and efficacy of new CFC-free pMDIs using Modulite technology.
  • To compare CFC-free beclometasone dipropionate (BDP) and budesonide Modulite formulations with existing CFC-based products.
  • To assess systemic exposure and cortisol levels after using Modulite pMDIs.

Main Methods:

  • Modulite technology provides a viable CFC-free alternative for pMDIs, ensuring comparable systemic exposure and efficacy.
  • The delivery of beclometasone dipropionate from Modulite inhalers is consistent, regardless of actuator type.
