Background:

  • Central serous retinopathy (CSR) is a condition affecting vision.
  • The efficacy of acetazolamide in CSR treatment requires further investigation.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the therapeutic benefits of acetazolamide in patients with central serous retinopathy.

Main Methods:

  • A prospective, nonrandomized comparative trial was conducted.
  • Fifteen CSR patients received acetazolamide, compared to 7 untreated controls.
  • Outcomes included time to visual improvement, clinical resolution, and recurrence rates.

Main Results:

  • Acetazolamide treatment significantly reduced the time to subjective visual improvement.
  • The time to full clinical resolution was also shorter in the acetazolamide group.
  • No significant difference in recurrence rates was observed between groups.

Conclusions:

  • Acetazolamide effectively shortens recovery time for central serous retinopathy.
  • The drug does not influence final visual acuity or the likelihood of disease recurrence.
