Summary

Fas ligand (FasL) expression on thymic epithelial tumor cells may regulate T-cell selection. Tumorigenesis in these tumors is not necessarily caused by a failure of apoptosis.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the expression of Fas/FasL, Bcl-2, and apoptosis in normal thymus and TETs.
  • To determine the role of Fas/FasL and Bcl-2 in the tumor microenvironment of TETs.
  • To assess the involvement of apoptosis in TET tumorigenesis.

  • Immunohistochemical analysis of Fas, FasL, and Bcl-2 expression.
  • Assessment of apoptotic indices using M30 CytoDeath staining.
  • Study included five normal thymus samples and 41 TET samples.
