[Chemical constituents of Epimedium acuminatum Franch. (II)]
Objective:
To study the components of roots of Epimedium acuminatum.
Method:
Column chromatography was employed for the isolation. The isolated compounds were elucidated by UV, IR, FAB-MS, 1HNMR and 13CNMR analysis.
Result:
Four constituents were obtained and elucidated as epimedoside A(V), diphylloside B(VI), epimedin C(VII) and ikarisoside C(VIII).
Conclusion:
Four constituents are all flavonol glycosides, of which VI, VII and VIII were separated from this plant for the first time.

Aromatic ring substitutions: Substituting the aromatic ring with –OH groups at positions 3 and 4 yields catecholamines (e.g., epinephrine), which have a high affinity for adrenoceptors. Hydrogen bonding between –OH groups and receptors enhances adrenergic activity.
