Abstract:
"The author discusses the distinctive demographic trends among Soviet Moslems, whose numbers are projected to rise from 44 million in 1979 to 64 million in the year 2000. This group is distinguished by high rates of natural increase, little mobility and low rates of linguistic assimilation. The rapid population growth among Moslems, especially those in Central Asia, poses problems of employment and of integrating these people into the Soviet economy."
