    Summary

Bodyplethysmography and spirometry are complementary lung function tests. Highly significant correlations were found between these methods for assessing ventilatory defects and increased residual volume.

    Area of Science:

    • Pulmonary medicine and respiratory diagnostics.

    Background:

    • Bodyplethysmography and spirometry are established pulmonary function tests.
    • Understanding their relationship is crucial for accurate respiratory assessment.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the correlation between bodyplethysmography and spirometry.
    • To evaluate their combined utility in diagnosing ventilatory defects.

    Main Methods:

    • Measurements were conducted on 102 individuals.
    • Comparative analysis of bodyplethysmographic and spirometric data.

    Main Results:

    • Highly significant correlations were observed between the two methods.
    • Both techniques effectively assessed restrictive and obstructive ventilatory defects.
    • Correlation was also significant for increased residual volume.

    Conclusions:

    • Bodyplethysmography and spirometry are complementary diagnostic tools.
    • Differences in results between methods provide valuable clinical information.
    • Combined use enhances the assessment of lung function abnormalities.
