[Experiences from early detection and surgical treatment of mediastinal neoplasms (author's transl)]
Abstract:
87 mediastinal tumors were operated at the Halle Universitätsklinik between 1951-1973. 42.5% were diagnosed occasionally by the yearly X-ray mass screening. 47.5% were benign, 34.4% malignant. The lower proportion of malignancies is attributed to the rapid growth of the tumor and the long interval between the screenings (1 year). Results, localizations and treatment are reported.
