Summary

Soluble P-selectin (sP-selectin) levels are significantly elevated in normal pregnancy, indicating increased platelet activation. This study clarifies previous conflicting results on platelet behavior during gestation.

    • Concentration of sP-selectin per platelet was also significantly elevated in pregnant women during the second and third trimesters.

    Conclusions:

    • Plasma sP-selectin concentrations are significantly elevated in the second and third trimesters of normal pregnancy.
    • This finding supports increased platelet activation during normal pregnancy, resolving previous discrepancies in the literature.
    • sP-selectin serves as a valuable biomarker for assessing platelet activation in pregnancy.
