[Family formation and dissolution: the two transitions]

"The position is defended which considers the changes in fertility, family formation and dissolution since the previous century as expressions of two separate transitions. The first corresponds with a period of increased qualitative aspirations within the nuclear family, whereas the second transition, carried by the postwar generations, is the expression of growing secular individualism and the preoccupation with self-fulfilment.
