The ambulatory clinic patient as a learner

The implementation of a patient education center in an ambulatory clinic is described. A case of study illustrates the methods of assessment, teaching, evaluation, and patient contracting that are utilized. Ways of evaluating the educational effectiveness of planned educational programs built into the health care system are explored.
