    Background:

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the long-term effects of diabetes on the regeneration of myelinated nerve fibers.
    • To compare nerve fiber regeneration and myelination in diabetic and non-diabetic rats following a crush injury.

    Main Methods:

    • Streptozotocin-induced diabetic rat model and age-matched controls.
    • Localized crush lesion applied to the sural nerve.

    • While a transient lag in myelination may occur in diabetic conditions, functional recovery appears comparable to non-diabetic states by 18 weeks post-injury.
