Summary

Refractive lens exchange with multifocal intraocular lenses (IOLs) is safe and effective for correcting high refractive errors. Patients experienced improved uncorrected near and distance vision with high satisfaction.

Background:

  • Refractive lens exchange (clear lens extraction) is an alternative for correcting ametropia.
  • Multifocal intraocular lenses (IOLs) aim to provide spectacle independence for both near and distance vision.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the safety, efficacy, predictability, stability, complications, and patient satisfaction of refractive lens exchange with multifocal IOL implantation.
  • To assess outcomes in patients with high myopia and hyperopia.

Main Methods:

  • Prospective study involving 25 patients (50 eyes) undergoing bilateral implantation of a zonal progressive multifocal IOL (Array, AMO).
  • Patients had preoperative spherical equivalent refraction ranging from -15.50 D to +5.75 D.
  • Follow-up was conducted over 6 months.
