[Beginnings of otolaryngology in Warsow]
Abstract:
The first Polish rhinological article by Leopold Lafontaine is presented in brief. The achievements of Jan Siestrzyński in phoniatry are mentioned. An important and decisive role of Varsiovian surgeons in the development of otolaryngology in Warsaw in the first decades of the nineteenth century is described in detail. An important role of the surgical clinics of Warsaw Royal University (established in 1818) in the development of otolaryngology is also presented. The importance of medical books by Ignacy Fijałkowski, Jan Tomorowicz, Józef Czekierski and August F. Wolff is described in brief. The ineffective attempt of the separation of otolaryngology at Warsaw Royal University in 1825 by Marcin Roliński is mentioned in brief.
