Angiography in urinary bladder tuberculosis.

S O Hietala, M Duchek

    Acta Radiologica: Diagnosis
    |May 1, 1975
    PubMed
    Summary

Angiography revealed non-specific signs of bladder tuberculosis, showing hypervascularization without venous changes. This imaging technique cannot distinguish tuberculous cystitis from other bladder conditions or tumors.

    Area of Science:

    • Urology
    • Radiology
    • Infectious Diseases

    Background:

    • Tuberculosis can affect the urinary bladder, leading to cystitis.
    • Diagnostic imaging is crucial for evaluating bladder conditions.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To assess the utility of angiography in diagnosing urinary bladder tuberculosis.
    • To determine if angiographic findings can differentiate tuberculous cystitis from other pathologies.

    Main Methods:

    • Angiography was performed in six patients with confirmed urinary bladder tuberculosis.
    • Analysis focused on arterial and venous phases, and circulation time.

    Main Results:

    • Angiography typically showed hypervascularization in the bladder wall during the arterial phase.
    • No venous abnormalities were observed, and circulation time remained unchanged.
    • The observed angiographic features were non-specific.

    Conclusions:

    • Angiography findings in urinary bladder tuberculosis are non-specific.
    • It is not possible to differentiate tuberculous cystitis from other forms of cystitis or bladder tumors using angiography.
