Background:

Observation:

  • A 66-year-old male presented with digital gangrene, pleural effusion, and throat discomfort.
  • Clinical presentation and arteriography confirmed polyarteritis.
  • The patient was diagnosed with co-existing hypopharyngeal carcinoma.

Findings:

  • Treatment with cyclophosphamide, corticosteroids, alprostadil, and aspirin led to rapid resolution of pleural effusion and gradual improvement of digital gangrene.
  • Radiation therapy resulted in complete remission of hypopharyngeal carcinoma.
