Summary

Interstitial lung disease (ILD) is common in patients with immunoglobulin (Ig) deficiency, particularly IgG subclass deficiency (IgGSC). Early treatment with intravenous Ig can improve outcomes in these patients.

Background:

  • Immunoglobulin (Ig) deficiency is associated with recurrent respiratory infections.
  • Interstitial lung disease (ILD) is a potential complication of Ig deficiency, but its prevalence is not well-established.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To determine the frequency and type of ILD in patients with symptomatic Ig deficiency.
  • To investigate the relationship between specific Ig deficiencies and ILD.
  • To assess the response to treatment in patients with ILD and Ig deficiency.

Main Methods:

  • Evaluated 148 consecutive patients with Ig deficiency and recurrent respiratory infections.
  • Assessed Ig classes, IgG subclasses (IgGSCs), and vaccination response.
  • Utilized pulmonary function tests, chest radiography, CT scans, Ga scans, BAL, and lung biopsy for ILD assessment.
