Background:

  • Dystroglycan (DG) is a cell surface laminin receptor complex crucial for basement membrane (BM) assembly and homeostasis.
  • In the cochlea, DG may influence laminin accumulation in thickened strial capillaries, potentially leading to degeneration of the stria vascularis (SV).

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the presence and distribution of DG in developing, mature, and senescent gerbil cochleae.
  • To determine if altered DG expression patterns contribute to age-related cochlear pathology.

  • Western blotting to detect alpha-DG subunit.
