Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the effectiveness of letter and telephone recall for pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV7) immunization.
  • To assess recall efficacy in an urban, economically disadvantaged population.

  • A randomized controlled trial was conducted at an inner-city teaching hospital.
  • Children aged 6 weeks to 22 months, unimmunized for PCV7, were assigned to recall (n=610) or control (n=624).
