Summary

A new enamel conditioning method shows comparable bond strength to the conventional phosphoric acid etch technique. While one adhesive (Transbond XT) performed better than another (Enlight), the alternative method is a viable option for orthodontic bracket bonding.

Background:

  • The conventional acid etch technique using 37% phosphoric acid is standard for enamel conditioning before orthodontic bracket bonding.
  • Alternative, potentially simpler, enamel conditioning methods are being explored to improve clinical efficiency.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate an alternative enamel conditioning method (Prompt L-Pop) against the conventional 37% phosphoric acid etch technique.
  • To compare the bond strength of two different orthodontic adhesives (Transbond XT and Enlight) using these conditioning methods.

Main Methods:

  • 240 human teeth were divided into 16 groups.
  • Enamel was conditioned using either Prompt L-Pop or 37% phosphoric acid.
  • Brackets were bonded using Transbond XT or Enlight adhesives.

  • Shear and tensile bond strength were tested, and SEM was used for surface analysis.
