Summary

Mycophenolate did not benefit patients with chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy or multifocal motor neuropathy. This immunomodulatory drug did not reduce other immunosuppressants and caused side effects in two patients.

Background:

  • Mycophenolate is an immunomodulatory drug with growing interest for neuromuscular diseases.
  • Chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy (CIDP) and multifocal motor neuropathy (MMN) are debilitating conditions.
  • Treatment resistance is a significant challenge in managing these neuropathies.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the efficacy of mycophenolate in patients with treatment-resistant CIDP or MMN.
  • To assess the impact of mycophenolate on corticosteroid and other immunosuppressive agent dosages.
  • To document any side effects associated with mycophenolate treatment in this patient cohort.

  • A case series of five consecutive patients with treatment-resistant CIDP or MMN was reviewed.
