Insights

A patient experienced angina following direct current cardioversion. Coronary angiography revealed a giant pseudoaneurysm of the left descending artery, successfully treated with stent grafts.

Area of Science:

  • Cardiology
  • Vascular Surgery

Background:

  • A 38-year-old patient with a history of coronary heart disease, including prior intervention and coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), presented with angina.
  • The patient had undergone recent interventional treatment for the left anterior descending (LAD) and right coronary artery (RCA) and emergency CABG six months prior.

Observation:

  • On admission, coronary angiography identified a giant pseudoaneurysm of the left descending coronary artery.
  • This pseudoaneurysm was causing compression of the left internal mammary artery (LIMA).

Findings:

  • The giant pseudoaneurysm of the left descending coronary artery was successfully treated using three stent grafts.
  • This intervention resolved the compression of the LIMA.

Implications:

  • This case highlights a rare complication of pseudoaneurysm formation in the context of coronary artery disease.
  • Stent graft placement offers a viable endovascular solution for managing complex coronary artery pseudoaneurysms.
  • Successful management of this pseudoaneurysm potentially prevented further cardiac events or complications.
