    Area of Science:

    • Gastroenterology and Hepatobiliary Surgery
    • Infectious Diseases
    • Nephrology

    Background:

    • Salmonella lithiasis is a rare clinical entity where Salmonella bacteria form gallstones.
    • Identifying and eradicating the bacterial reservoir is crucial for managing chronic Salmonella infections and preventing recurrence.

    Observation:

    • A 60-year-old female patient presented with complications attributed to Salmonella lithiasis.
    • The patient was identified as a chronic Salmonella carrier.

    Findings:

    • Nephrectomy was performed as an alternative to lyelolithotomy to address the carrier state.
    • Cholecystectomy and common bile duct exploration were also necessary surgical procedures.

    Implications:

    • This case highlights the importance of considering Salmonella lithiasis in patients with unexplained biliary or renal issues.
    • Aggressive surgical management, including removal of infected organs, can be effective in eradicating the carrier state and preventing complications.
