Abstract:
This article introduces the history and current applications of workplace ergonomics, basic principles of biomechanics, the types of workplace risks and injuries encountered in the health care environment and risk-reduction strategies. After completing it, the reader should be able to: Describe the biomechanics and physiology of muscle and bone. Explain the different types of muscular work. List major musculoskeletal disorders and their symptoms. Recognize workplace risk factors for musculoskeletal damage and identify prevention strategies. Explain how technological advances in the radiology workplace will reduce the musculoskeletal strain suffered by radiologic technologists.
