Area of Science:

  • Urology
  • Pediatric Surgery

Background:

  • Ureteroceles are congenital anomalies of the ureter.
  • Prolapse through the external meatus is an uncommon presentation.
  • Post-surgical prolapse, especially after heminephrectomy, is extremely rare.

Observation:

  • A case of ureterocele prolapse occurred two months after an upper pole heminephrectomy.
  • The prolapsed ureterocele presented through the external meatus.
  • This represents a highly unusual post-operative complication.

Findings:

  • Surgical excision of the prolapsed ureterocele along with the upper pole ureteral stump was performed.
  • The remaining lower pole ureter was successfully reimplanted.
  • The patient experienced a good clinical outcome following the procedure.

Implications:

  • This case highlights a rare but manageable complication of heminephrectomy.
  • Successful management involves tailored surgical techniques for ureteral reimplantation.
  • Further understanding of ureterocele behavior post-surgery is warranted.
