Summary

Methadone patients cannot accurately detect changes in their daily dose. However, they report more positive effects when they believe their dose increased and more negative effects when they believe it decreased.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To determine if patients on methadone maintenance can accurately identify acute changes in their prescribed dose.

  • Ten patients receiving methadone maintenance (50-100 mg daily) were unpredictably administered 80%, 90%, 100%, 110%, or 120% of their usual dose four times weekly.
