Summary

Prevalence of Rickettsia prowazekii and Bartonella quintana in body lice was investigated. R. prowazekii was found in Burundi and Rwanda, while B. quintana infections were widespread. Borrelia recurrentis was not detected.

Background:

  • Body lice (Pediculus humanus humanus) are vectors for several bacterial pathogens.
