Summary

The N-Lite laser, used for wrinkle reduction, causes temporary inflammation and swelling in the skin. Four weeks post-treatment, it leads to interstitial fibrosis, particularly around capillaries.

Area of Science:

  • Dermatology
  • Aesthetic Medicine
  • Laser Technology

Background:

  • Cosmeceuticals, chemical peels, and collagen injections lack permanence for skin rejuvenation.
  • Laser resurfacing offers effectiveness but carries a high risk of side effects.
  • The non-ablative wrinkle reduction laser (N-Lite) emerged as a potentially effective alternative.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the ultrastructural changes in skin following exposure to the N-Lite laser.

Main Methods:

  • Eight adult volunteers received N-Lite laser treatment.
  • Skin punch biopsies were collected at multiple time points (3 hours to 5 weeks) post-treatment.
  • Specimens were analyzed using electron microscopy.

Main Results:

Related Experiment Videos

  • Initial inflammation (edema, neutrophil infiltration) observed up to 1 week post-treatment.
  • Capillary structure normalized by 2 weeks, with increased collagen and elastic fibers.
  • Interstitial fibrosis developed around capillaries by 4 weeks.

Conclusions:

  • N-Lite laser irradiation induces interstitial fibrosis, primarily around dermal capillaries.
  • The observed fibrosis is a significant ultrastructural change occurring 4 weeks after treatment.
