Summary

This study demonstrates successful surgical repair of a rare thoracic wall desmoplastic fibroma using tissue-engineered bone derived from autologous bone marrow stromal cells (MSC). The patient showed significant recovery and improved cardiopulmonary function post-operation.

  • The resulting thoracic wall defect, including ribs and soft tissues, was reconstructed using tissue-engineered bone and a pedicled flap.

  • Autologous bone marrow stromal cells (MSCs) were cultured and differentiated into osteoblasts.
  • These MSCs were co-cultured with a decellularized allogeneic bone scaffold.
  • The tissue-engineered bone successfully repaired three resected ribs, and a pedicled abdominal flap addressed soft tissue defects.
