Area of Science:

  • Reconstructive surgery
  • Gynecologic surgery
  • Vaginal reconstruction

Background:

  • Vaginal enlargement success hinges on preventing postoperative contracture.
  • Existing methods include complex flaps and autografts with varying contraction risks.
  • Vaginal atresia necessitates effective reconstructive procedures.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To introduce a novel vaginoplasty technique for vaginal enlargement.
  • To address vaginal atresia associated with congenital or acquired conditions.
  • To offer an easily learned and performed surgical solution.

Main Methods:

  • Utilized deepithelialized vulvar transposition flaps from labia majora.
  • Constructed enlarged vaginal entrance and cavity using deepithelialized dermis.

Related Experiment Videos

  • Applied the technique for congenital adrenogenital syndrome-associated and acquired vaginal atresia.
  • Main Results:

    • The procedure demonstrated a healing phase free of tissue rejection.
    • Grafted epithelium transformed to mimic normal vaginal lining (non-cornified, non-hair-bearing).
    • Postoperative functional and sexual outcomes were reported as satisfying.

    Conclusions:

    • Follow-up of 17 patients over 16 years showed optimal cosmetic and functional results.
    • The deepithelialized vulvar flap technique is effective for vaginal enlargement.
    • This method offers a reliable solution for vaginal atresia with minimal contracture.
