Developing the new role of clinical housekeeper in a surgical ward

Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus continues to pose a threat to patients admitted to hospital. This paper describes how the role of a clinical housekeeper was developed in an acute male surgical ward and how the implementation of the role led to better patient care through improvements in cleanliness and a subsequent reduction in infections.
