Summary
This review found insufficient evidence to confirm hyaluronate effectiveness for temporomandibular joint disorders (TMD). More high-quality trials are needed to determine if hyaluronate injections benefit TMD patients.

- Hyaluronate demonstrated comparable short-term and long-term efficacy to glucocorticoids for TMD symptom and sign improvement.
- Results for arthroscopy/arthrocentesis with or without hyaluronate were inconsistent; mild, transient adverse effects at the injection site were noted.
Conclusions:
- Insufficient and inconsistent evidence exists to support or refute hyaluronate use in TMD treatment.
- Further high-quality randomized controlled trials (RCTs) are necessary to establish definitive conclusions on hyaluronate's effectiveness for TMD.
