Endovascular stent grafts offer a safe and effective treatment for acute traumatic aortic transection. This less invasive approach is ideal for patients with complex injuries, improving outcomes.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the feasibility and safety of endovascular stent graft placement.
  • To assess this technique for acute traumatic aortic transection.

Main Methods:

  • Nine patients with aortic transections underwent emergent stent graft repair (1994-2001).
  • A custom prototype and Cook-Zenith thoracic stent grafts were used.
  • Deployment was via a 20- to 24-F femoral delivery sheath.
