Summary

A rare liquefied after-cataract caused sudden vision loss in one eye after cataract surgery. Neodymium:YAG laser treatment successfully restored 20/20 vision, even without posterior capsule rupture.

Background:

  • Cataract surgery is a common procedure.
  • Complications can arise years after surgery.

Observation:

  • A 39-year-old patient experienced sudden unilateral vision decrease 5 years post-extracapsular cataract surgery.
  • The cause was identified as a rare liquefied after-cataract affecting the visual axis.

Findings:

  • Neodymium:YAG (Nd:YAG) laser treatment was administered.
  • Successful visual acuity improvement to 20/20 was achieved.
  • Treatment was effective despite no posterior capsule rupture.

Implications:

  • Liquefied after-cataract is a novel complication causing acute vision impairment.
