Background:

  • Demodex mites (Demodex folliculorum and D. brevis) are common skin parasites.
  • Most infestations are asymptomatic, but some individuals develop demodicosis.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the association between human leukocyte antigen (HLA) specificity and the development of demodicosis.
  • To identify specific HLA alleles and haplotypes that may predispose individuals to or protect them from demodicosis.

  • Human leukocyte antigen (HLA) typing for HLA-A, B, Bw, and Cw was performed on 25 demodicosis patients and 150 controls using the microlymphocytotoxicity method.
  • Immune response was assessed by identifying immune cell membrane markers with monoclonal antibodies.
