Area of Science:

  • Hand surgery
  • Pediatric orthopedics
  • Vascular anomalies

Background:

  • Vascular malformations are relatively common in the hand.
  • Previous reports have documented various locations, but not within the flexor tendon sheath.

Observation:

  • An 8-year-old girl presented with a capillary vascular malformation.
  • The malformation was exclusively located within the flexor tendon sheath.

Findings:

  • This case represents the first reported instance of a vascular malformation involving the vinculum of the flexor tendon sheath.
  • The malformation was entirely contained within the tendon sheath.

Implications:

  • Highlights the importance of considering unusual locations for vascular malformations in the hand.

Related Experiment Videos

  • Surgical excision is an effective treatment for such localized malformations.
  • Contributes to the understanding of the anatomical distribution of vascular anomalies.
