Two unique cases of lenticular fibroxanthomatous nodules were identified in patients with persistent hyperplastic primary vitreous and ocular trauma. These rare nodules require differentiation from other lens-related entities.

Area of Science:

  • Ophthalmology
  • Pathology

Background:

  • Lenticular nodular proliferations are uncommon findings in ocular pathology.
  • Differentiating these lesions from other entities is crucial for accurate diagnosis.

Observation:

  • Two patients presented with unique lenticular nodular proliferations.
  • One patient had persistent hyperplastic primary vitreous; the other had ocular trauma.

Findings:

  • The nodules were characterized as vascularized collections of foamy histiocytes, multinucleated cells, and metaplastic lens capsule and epithelium.
  • These lesions were classified as lenticular fibroxanthomatous nodules.

Implications:

  • Lenticular fibroxanthomatous nodules represent a distinct clinicopathologic entity.
