[Analysis of MRI for tumor of the sellar region]
1Diagnostic Center of MRI, First Affiliated Municipal Hospital of Guangzhou Medical College, Guangzhou 510180, China.
Purpose:
To introduce the characteristics of magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) for the tumors of the sellar region.
Methods:
A retrospective analysis of 86 cases with the tumors of the sellar region was carried out.
Results:
The pituitary tumor including the pituitary micro-adenoma and pituitary macro-adenoma was a common tumor of the sellar region. The pituitary micro-adenoma usually does not affect visual function; but the pituitary macro-adenoma often damages the optic pathway and reduces the visual function. The rest of the sellar region appears special feature on MRI.
Conclusion:
MRI is a useful method in diagnosing the tumors of the sellar region.
Insights
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) effectively characterizes sellar region tumors, including pituitary adenomas. MRI aids in diagnosing these tumors and assessing their impact on visual function.
Area of Science:
- Radiology
- Neuroimaging
- Oncology
Context:
- Sellar region tumors are common and can impact neurological function.
- Pituitary adenomas are a frequent type of sellar tumor.
- Understanding tumor characteristics is crucial for diagnosis and treatment planning.
Purpose:
- To describe the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) features of sellar region tumors.
- To highlight the diagnostic utility of MRI in evaluating these lesions.
Summary:
- A retrospective analysis of 86 sellar region tumor cases was performed.
- Pituitary microadenomas and macroadenomas were common, with macroadenomas affecting visual pathways.
