[Changes in T-lymphocyte subsets of peripheral blood in patients with filarial chyluria]
1Health and Anti-epidemic Station of Cangshan County, Shandong Province, Cangshan 277700.
Insights
Filarial chyluria impairs immune function, as evidenced by significantly decreased T-lymphocyte subsets (CD4+ and CD8+) in patients. This immune dysfunction in chyluria patients highlights potential therapeutic targets.
Area of Science:
- Immunology
- Tropical Medicine
- Hematology
Context:
- Chyluria, particularly filarial chyluria, is a lymphatic parasitic disease affecting immune status.
- Understanding T-lymphocyte subset alterations is crucial for assessing immune function in chyluria patients.
Purpose:
- To investigate the changes in peripheral blood T-lymphocyte subsets, specifically CD4+ and CD8+ counts and their ratio, in patients with present chyluria (PPC), a history of chyluria (PNPC), and healthy controls.
Summary:
- Patients with present chyluria exhibited significantly reduced percentages of CD3+ and CD4+ T-lymphocytes compared to those with a history of chyluria and healthy controls.
- The CD4+:CD8+ ratio was notably below 1.0 in the present chyluria group, indicating a compromised immune profile.
- T-lymphocyte subsets and CD4+:CD8+ ratios were within normal ranges for both the history of chyluria group and healthy controls.
Impact:
- The study demonstrates impaired immune function in filarial chyluria patients, characterized by specific T-lymphocyte subset dysregulation.
- These findings underscore the immunological impact of filarial infections and may guide future immunomodulatory treatment strategies for chyluria.
Objective:
To study the changes in T-lymphocyte subsets CD4+:CD8+ of peripheral blood in 29 patients with present chyluria(PPC), 29 patients with chyluria history but without chyluria (PNPC) and 38 healthy controls.
Methods:
The determination of CD3+, CD4+ and CD8+ was conducted using test reagents kits.
Results:
The percentage of CD3+, CD4+ cell were signfcantly decreased in PPS group than in PNPC and healthy control group, the ratio of CD4+/CD8+ being under 1.0. The T-lymphocyte subsets (CD3+, CD4+, CD8+) and CD4+/CD8+ ratio of both PNPC and healthy control group were all within normal range.
Conclusion:
The immune function of the patients with filarial chyluria was impaired in terms of the changes in T-lymphocyte subsets.
