Summary

High Skp2 expression in soft tissue sarcomas correlates with increased cell proliferation and a poorer prognosis. This finding suggests Skp2 may be a valuable prognostic marker for these tumors.

Background:

  • p45 S phase kinase-associated protein-2 (p45(skp2)) is an F-box protein crucial for the SCF(skp2) ubiquitin-ligase complex.
  • This complex regulates p27(kip1) (p27) degradation and G(1)-S cell cycle progression.
  • The prognostic significance of Skp2 in soft tissue sarcomas remains uninvestigated.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the expression and prognostic role of Skp2 in a large cohort of soft tissue sarcomas.
  • To correlate Skp2 expression with clinicopathologic features and patient survival.

Main Methods:

  • Immunohistochemical analysis of Skp2, p27, and Ki-67 in 182 soft tissue sarcoma cases (AJCC stages II and III).
  • Survival analyses were conducted using Kaplan-Meier and Cox regression models.
