Area of Science:

  • Neurology
  • Infectious Diseases

Background:

  • Spinal cord abscess is an uncommon etiology of progressive paraplegia.
  • Chlamydia pneumoniae is a pathogen typically associated with bronchopulmonary infections.

Observation:

  • A 75-year-old male presented with symptoms suggestive of spinal cord compression.
  • The patient had a concurrent diagnosis of Chlamydia pneumoniae bronchopulmonary infection.

Findings:

  • The spinal cord abscess showed a favorable response on neuroradiological imaging.
  • Clinical improvement in paraplegia was minimal despite antibiotic treatment.

Implications:

  • This case highlights a rare presentation of Chlamydia pneumoniae with spinal cord localization.
  • It underscores the importance of considering infectious etiologies in spinal cord pathologies.
  • Neuroradiological assessment is crucial for monitoring treatment response in spinal cord abscesses.
