Toxoplasma gondii Cyst Wall Formation in Activated Bone Marrow-derived Macrophages and Bradyzoite Conditions
Published on: August 12, 2010
Abstract:
A case of thorn-induced granuloma of bone is presented and discussed in relation to the previous eight cases reported. The condition affects the exposed areas, usually the hands, of children. It may be as long as nine months from the initial episode of injury or inflammation to presentation as pseudo-tumour. The radiographic appearance are those of a chronic granuloma with longitudinal cavitation and adjacent perioseal reaction and as such can be differentiated from Ewing's sarcoma, osteoid osteoma, tuberculosis dactylitis, benign osteoblastoma, and stress fracture.

Bone deposition is also affected by the levels of sex hormones like estrogen and testosterone that promote osteoblast activity and bone matrix synthesis. When the level of these hormones decreases due to aging, it causes a reduction in bone deposition. As a result, bone resorption by osteoclasts...
