Area of Science:

  • Gynecology
  • Urology

Background:

  • Endometriosis is a condition where tissue similar to the uterine lining grows outside the uterus.
  • Urethral obstruction is a rare but serious complication of endometriosis.

Observation:

  • Two cases of unilateral urethral obstruction due to endometriosis in women aged 48 and 35.
  • Diagnosis was confirmed pre-operatively and macroscopically during surgery.
  • Surgical amputation of affected urethral segments followed by anastomosis was performed.

Findings:

  • Histopathological examination confirmed endometriosis as the cause of obstruction.
  • Both patients achieved full recovery after surgery and subsequent hormonal treatment.

Implications:

  • Urethral endometriosis is a rare complication requiring prompt diagnosis and effective treatment.
