Imaging features of aggressive angiomyxoma

Aggressive angiomyxoma, a rare benign tumor, typically presents as a well-defined perineal mass in young women. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) reveals characteristic features aiding diagnosis.

- Three patients had recurrent tumors.

- CT and MR imaging showed a well-defined mass displacing adjacent structures.
- MR imaging revealed a characteristic "swirled" internal pattern with avid enhancement.
- Recurrent tumors had a similar appearance to primary lesions.
Implications:
- The characteristic MR appearances of aggressive angiomyxomas can aid in diagnosis.
- Diagnosis should be considered in young women with a perineal mass.
