Area of Science:

  • Dermatology
  • Pharmacology

Background:

  • Acne vulgaris requires prompt and effective treatment.
  • Benzoyl peroxide/clindamycin combination therapy shows efficacy for acne vulgaris.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate patient satisfaction with benzoyl peroxide/clindamycin topical gel in mild to moderate acne patients dissatisfied with current treatments.

Main Methods:

  • An 8-week, open-label, multicenter study (n=1,389) assessed patient satisfaction, acne severity (GAGS), quality of life (AQOL), and Physician Global Assessment (PGA).
  • Inclusion criteria: age ≥12 years, low prior treatment satisfaction (0-4/11 VAS). Exclusion criteria: significant comorbidities, hypersensitivity.

Main Results:

  • The study evaluated patient satisfaction, acne severity using the Global Acne Grading System (GAGS), and quality of life with the Acne Quality of Life (AQOL) scale.
  • Physician Global Assessment (PGA) measured treatment response on a 5-point scale.
  • The open-label design facilitated real-world assessment in a large patient cohort.

Conclusions:

  • Benzoyl peroxide/clindamycin topical gel offers a satisfactory treatment option for patients with mild to moderate acne vulgaris.
  • The treatment regimen positively impacted patient satisfaction and quality of life related to acne.
