Abstract:
A frequent congenital heart disease in adults is the atrial septal defects (ASD). The pathology represents substantial variability due to the different mechanisms of developmental failure that may occur during embryogenesis. Subsequently, the clinical manifestation of the defect varies despite some similarities. This article presents classification, prevalence, clinical manifestation of various forms of atrial septal defects and scope of available treatment.
