Sphenoid sinus tuberculosis in children-a rare entity.

Summary

Sphenoid sinus tuberculosis is rare in children. Early diagnosis with MRI and biopsy, followed by treatment, leads to good outcomes, especially in tropical regions.

Background:

Tuberculosis (TB) is a global health concern, but its manifestation in the sphenoid sinus is exceptionally rare.
Sphenoid sinus lesions in children often present diagnostic challenges, necessitating a broad differential diagnosis.

Observation:

This study details two pediatric cases of sphenoid sinus tuberculosis.
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) was crucial for initial radiological assessment in both patients.
Endoscopic biopsy provided definitive tissue diagnosis for sphenoid sinus tuberculosis.

Findings:

Both pediatric patients diagnosed with sphenoid sinus tuberculosis responded well to standard antitubercular therapy.
Prompt initiation of antitubercular treatment resulted in significant clinical improvement.

Sphenoid sinus tuberculosis should be considered in the differential diagnosis of sphenoid sinus lesions, particularly in pediatric populations.
